Mia Hungry Long Time!

The Godmother of Sandwiches – Bay Cities in LA

Two posts in two days! I am ON FIRE!

Okay so remember I was telling you yesterday that I was sick? Well, I took a Nyquil at around 11 last night to help me with the cold and snifflyness galore and whatdayanow, 10 minutes later I was out cold! See, I usually don’t go to bed until around 2 or 3 in the morning. I know, bad girl, right? Raaeeeeeeght? For some reason, I just can’t go to bed any earlier than that (unless it’s the weekend and I’m BAZONKED on alcohol – passing out doesn’t count), even when I try really, really hard. But babes, I had a glorious 8 hours of sleep last night. And today? Whoah I was a super productive machine! I worked super hard at my day job, I worked super hard on my freelance gig (for four hours!), and now I’m bloggity blog blogging. So, Nyquil = OH HELLS YEAH.

Okay, I promise I won’t get addicted to Nyquil. My robotrippin’ days are behind me. Kidding! I never actually robotrip, but my friends did. Damn I’m lame.

Anyways, here’s the first (of plenty, trust me) food post from last week’s LA trip. Tonight, my sweet sweet friends, I will take you to Bay Cities Italian Deli and Bakery.

I landed in LA during lunchtime, and my super awesome friend miss Logan (whom I am not on speaking terms right now due to a retarded fight that’s noone’s fault. Yeah, chicks do that from time to time all the time) and her friend who lives in LA picked me up from the airport and they were all like get ready for the best sandwich EVER.

I was stoked. Partly because I was starving and partly because I was finally in LA, the land where the sun actually shines. SF was totally cloudy the whole time I was there, boo. Oh babes, LA weather is friekin phenomenal. I hate LA and everyone in it (except for George Clooney and my friends) but really, you can’t beat that weather. Anyways, I was stoked.

This joint is actually an Italian deli/supermarket in Santa Monica:

Here’s a giant phallic signage to help you find it, just in case you’re half blind:

And here’s the deli counter:
Dudes, after I took this picture, some asshole dude who works there yelled out “HEY LADY NO PICTURES!”, totally embarrassing me in front of the cool LA people. Just kidding, there are no cool LA people. Heh-heh.
Anywyas, that was totally annoying. Not cool, Deli Counter Douche, not cool! It’s a friekin deli/supermarket! Grrr.

So like a regular deli, they have a gazillion types of sandwiches for you to pick from, and of course you can also get all creative and make your own. According to my LA friend, Bay Cities’ claim to fame is this sandwich called The Godmother.

The Godmother is a sandwich with: genoa salami, mortadella, coppacola, ham, prosciutto, provolone. BOOYAH! How good does that sound?
PS: the menu says “no sub”. Then again, who would want to substitute anything from that list, right? You’d be a fool. A fool, I tell ya!

So I went ahead and got one:
Fyi, that’s the small. Apparently here at Bay Cities, small means large. And large means HUMONGOUS. Then again, this is an Italian deli. Hey heeey! Man I’m such a kidder tonight. Go Nyquil!

Also, I don’t know if you guys noticed this, but I got a POM super tea drink. The flavour: Pomegranate Lychee Green Tea. Holy crap, right! That thing was delicious. I got it because I wanted to bring in some kind of Asian flavour to my lunch. I will not let the Italians dominate! Must introduce taste of Asia to every meal! Okay, I’ll stop. But seriously, yummy drink.

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce you (Puccini playing in the background): The Godmother.
Isn’t she beautiful?

That beautiful squared crackly Italian hero… aaah.

Here she is in all her meatness:
Oh yeah babe, oh yeah.

Even closer:

It was amazing. The combination of all the meats, especially that coppacola (sweet and spicy), with the provolone, a glob of mayo, and pickle relish, oh man. Oh man oh man. It was delicious.

I made a huge mess of course.

So there you go. That was my first meal on my LA trip. I was a happy gal. I’m actually not so big on sandwiches, but this one totally hit the spot. So go to Bay Cities if you want a cheap yet  satisfying sandwich lunch, just don’t take pictures inside.

Rating: Photobucket: 3 hungrymias. The sandwich actually gets 4 hungrymias, but Mean No Picture Yeller Dude took one star away. What do you think about that, huh huh?

PS: I’m in a good mood, so let me leave you with an old picture of mine that I just found:

This picture is called:

my impression of a pineapple

Please don’t hate me.

Good night lovers!
