Mia Hungry Long Time!

Greasy Sexy in New Jersey – Tun Tavern

One weekend last month, my friends and I went to Atlantic City for a little road trip. I was craving a relaxing, serene vacation weekend where I can drink like an idiot and lose money at blackjack tables, so naturally AC came to mind.

I’ve been to AC once, seven years ago, with my boyfriend at the time and some friends. We went for just one night, stayed up the entire time, just to gamble gamble gamble. I barely remember it because I was so sloshed. Hey, I was at a tender age of 22, I don’t have to justify my actions!

Anyways, this time, as a mature 29 year old working lady, I decided to class it up a little and stay at the Trump Plaza hotel where every single thing was gold, gold, gold. Seriously, chandeliers, carpets, bed furnishings, curtains, chair cushions, dresses on drunk ass Jersey girls, GOLD. It was incredible. I felt so classy. Not.

I had a really good time. I did lose $125 at the blackjack tables though, but I expected that. I’m a very unlucky gambler. That’s why I only do it once every seven years.

Anyways, on the Saturday we were there, we woke up hungover, craving beers and greasy food. My friend Ryan suggested we go to Tun Tavern, a brewery slash restaurant. So off we go.

This place was not hard to spot.
This thing was gigantic. It’s really colorful and the top part rotates, like a crazy globe. Too bad it was a cloudy day, my picture really doesn’t do it justice. The colors are so AMERICA! AMERICA! AMERICA! I suspect that thing lights up at night. Man, that would be way too much to handle.

Here’s another giant signage:
Dudes, I guess they’re all about BIG BIG BIG in Joizey.
I’m all about repeating words today, can’t you tell?

The decor was nice and gimmicky and exactly what you would expect from a brewery-themed restaurant.

A portrait of the Man, “Tun”cle Sam, adorned our paper place mats:
Kinda looked like a young Dubya to me. *shudder

As expected, they have a lot of brews:

So we got some.
Mine is the one that has the pee-pee color. Very organic.

I really liked the beers, actually. Maybe because I was hungover. Maybe because they were really good. Who knows.

Here’s a picture of my super sexy dining companions:

That’s Ryan and Kevin.

And here’s me with miss Sarah:
I look like a bloated chipmunk here. Not bad, Mia, not bad.

So I started with a cup of crab chowder:

Babes, that thing was bananas good. So good.
Perfectly seasoned with big chunks of crab meat:
I could’ve eaten a boatload of this thing. NOMMMM.

Then we started on our entrees.

Okay fine, I was the only one that got an appetizer. I like food okay, lay off, bitches.

Kevin got…
Dude, I have no idea what that thing is. This trip was some time ago, I can’t remember. And judging from the picture it’s probably some kind of hot dog/ sausage sandwich with a gallon of cheese exploded on top. In other words: perfect.

Ryan ordered a blue cheese burger, but was delivered a bacon cheeseburger instead:
He didn’t protest though. The waitress must’ve been cute or something. Anyways he said it was pretty good.

Sarah and I got the same thing:
Coconut shrimp!

Babes, let me just tell you, I am a big advocate of pairing the likes of coconut and shrimp. Together they make one dangerously sexy ethnic combination. Like Tia Carrere.

The coconut shrimp at Tun Tavern, however, was just okay. Not Tia Carrere – sexy, more Tricia Takanawa mediocre sexy.

I admit though, the shrimp was perfectly cooked.

However, I feel like the breading was very thick and very sweet, which I didn’t like at all. I feel like coconut flakes are already sweet to begin with, so no need to overdue it with a super thick batter. There was definitely more breading than shrimp.

Thank God they have hot sauce, otherwise I would’ve been sick of it by the time I finished the second shrimp.

Don’t get me wrong though, it wasn’t like they were bad. They weren’t. Sarah and Kevin liked them a lot.
Maybe I just have very high expectations when it comes to coconut shrimp? Anyways, it was just okay. Too sweet, too sweet.

The fries were delicious though.
I loved the aioli that came with it.

Regardless of the shrimp being too sweet of a situation, I destroyed my plate.

Here’s Kevin in a food coma after eating his cheese-plosion sandwich:

And Ryan thinking about the blue cheese burger that never came, oh what a party it could’ve been…

Sarah, looking all EYES EYES EYES, damn those gorgeous eyes.

Anyways, I had a nice time.
The price is what you would expect:

I would come back for beers with friends, I think. But since I don’t live in AC, I probably won’t.

So we ate, and then we walked back to our super pimp gold suite in the sky and lived happily ever after.

The end.

Rating: Photobucket = 3 hungrymias. Not amazing, but decent enough. The beers were good. The place was huge with lots of TVs, probably be fun to watch a game here with a bunch of buds. Here’s the link to the place.
